How to maintain a sustainable agricultural that could feed the world’s increasingly large population? How to ensure the pesticides we applied wouldn’t cause catastrophic adverse effects to the environmental ecosystem and our own human health? Mengya’s research focuses on the staple crops production from the perspective of life cycle assessment. Her analysis would take into account of all of the major agricultural inputs, including pesticides, fertilizers, fuels, and irrigation water. For each individual active ingredient of pesticides, she would evaluate its fate and transport in the environment, the potential routes of ecosystem species and human exposures, and its associated toxicity impacts.
